First Eagle

My wife and I decided to play an impromptu 18 on Mother’s Day with another couple. Honestly, I wasn’t really feeling it after a brunch full of mimosas. To make matters worse, I’ve had the driver yips for the past month, so after the first hole I decided the driver was staying in the bag and I’d just play my 3-wood all day. Mind you, I am not a great golfer...not even a good golfer. I just started playing a couple of years ago.

We get to Hole 7, a par 4, and I stripe a beautiful draw right down the middle of the fairway. Standing over my second shot, I told my playing partner (my wife’s friend’s husband) exactly what I wanted to hit: a low-cut 7 iron that stayed under the wind and rolled up toward the pin.

Then, the first time ever, I actually hit the exact shot I pictured in my head.

Absolutely flushed it.

For a brief moment, I felt like I was on Tour.

The ball landed exactly where I wanted and started tracking toward the flag. As it rolled up, it disappeared. My wife immediately started yelling that it went in, but I honestly thought it had just rolled behind the stick. I’ve been hurt before.

Sure enough, we get to the green… and it was in the cup.

I’ve made plenty of birdies and had a few eagle putts on par 5s before (3 putted for par), but I’d never actually carded an eagle until now.

So now I’m sitting here staring at the ball wondering what the etiquette is. Do people display an eagle ball, or is that mostly reserved for Ace's?

Either way, just wanted to share some good news. I will be chasing the feeling for the rest of my life.

TL;DR: Got my first eagle.
