I’m going to be in Banff this summer (June 14th-19th) and going to be based in Canmore. I booked the vacation late last year so I had no idea it was going to be a heavy snow-filled winter, and now I’m worried if certain trails/roads could become inaccessible during my trip. For example, I’ve been checking the Lake Louise webcam, and the amount of snow/ice this year seems to be more than archived cam footage from this same time last year.
These are the main 5 places I’m worried about:
- Yoho Valley Rd (Takakkaw Falls, avalanche risk)
- Maligne Lake Rd (avalanche risk)
- Moraine Lake (either being partially frozen or low water level)
- Lake Agnes Tea House/Little Beehive trail (too icy/snowy)
- Peyto Lake Viewpoint trail (too icy/snowy)
I understand it’s possible that I’m a few weeks early in making this post since the weather throughout May could play a big role, but still wanted to get some more insight on these 5 places in particular.
