I’m pretty new to this sub, been lurking for a little bit but never commented. I’ve been shedding pretty consistently for a couple of years now and my hair is so much thinner than it used to be, with more scalp showing around my part and on top in general. I’m 52 but have been on HRT (estrogen) for 16 years. I’ve also lost 40+ pounds over the last year and change. I don’t know what my ferritin levels are - checked my bloodwork results from my annual physical a couple of months ago but didn’t see that listed.
I saw a dermatologist a couple of weeks ago and she mentioned female pattern hair loss (which I guess is the same thing as AGA?). I also had some kind of yeast-related inflammation on my scalp, which caused some white, dry/flaky looking patches, not dandruff.
She gave me a topical and a shampoo for the yeast thing and also prescribed a compounded minoxidil/finasteride topical for the hair loss. Has anyone used this, and what was your experience with it? Did you get the dread shed like from oral min? Is there a good way to apply it so that it doesn’t make my hair feel stiff and crunchy? I usually wash my hair every other day. And most importantly, did you have good results with it?
