MLIS in Alberta
I've been thinking about getting my masters in library science for a while now, and I just wanted some advice before I pull the trigger and start the application process.
There is no doubt in my mind that I would enjoy this as a lifelong career, but my only concern is lack of opportunity. I'm worried that it will be impossible to find volunteer work during my masters or a job after I'm finished.
I'm curious what other MLIS students' experiences are in Alberta. How's the job market? How hard was it to get experience? Where was your go-to place to look for said opportunities? Based off your experience, are jobs in this field fairly stable?
My other big question is what other careers can you get with a MLIS that isn't a librarian or archivist? I feel like knowing what other options there are in the general field will make the search for volunteer work or a job feel less constricted.
Going back to school takes up so much time and money, I just want some real life insight before I make a final decision. Thanks for your help!
