Obviously the coach is the answer but I want to be a little more involved. My (47M) son (15) chose boxing as an activity, and to be honest, I’m impressed with his enthusiasm with it as far as wanting to continue into another 3 month gym membership. He started going 2 nights a week because that was what worked with our schedule and now that summer is here I suggested 3 and he didn’t seem interested in that. So I was thinking I could get some focus mitts and get him moving with them, and also spend some time with him.

So, I know very little, actually nothing, about the art or precision of boxing and don’t want to impede any aspect of his growth, so I would like take some time to see if I’m able to identify and understand the elements of holding the mitts, (I also saw focus paddles…?) and was hoping to find some insight or reference here.

I would very much love to work towards something like this. We live in a relatively small apartment so I can’t really fathom a bag or larger practice tools. Would it be reasonable to understand the mechanics of the focus mitts as someone who knows nothing about boxing and be able to help/ spend some quality time with my kid?

TLDR: My 15yo kid is getting into boxing, I want to learn to use focus mitts but not mess up his growth. Can I do that and what do I do / can you offer some good reference material.
