Going to Labor and Delivery triage after every focal??
Earlier this morning I was experiencing elevated resting heart rate and headache. I was told by my OB to go to L&D triage. While getting dressed to go, I had a focal seizure. Short-lasting but included all my regular seizure symptoms like aphasia, Jamais vu, and then postictal tiredness and confusion. I also had 2 focal seizures on Sunday and have been having them about every 5-6 weeks since Jan 2025, even on 3000mg Keppra ER.
My BP and heart rate were good upon being checked at triage. I had an ultrasound and was hooked up to a monitor for baby and all was good there. The nurse did say that baby was “sluggish” when I first got hooked up. I was told to either go to the ER or to follow up with my neurologist. My neurologist wants me to go to the ER or a lab to have my Keppra levels checked.
I was also told I needed to go to L&D triage after *every* seizure. I’ve been having focals every 5-6 weeks all through this pregnancy. Maternal Fetal Medicine and my OB have not been concerned about my seizures at all.
Has anyone else experienced this? I was under the impression (and was told by MFM) that focal seizures have an extremely low risk of causing harm to me or my baby. I’m feeling overwhelmed with this new set of rules. I was concerned about preeclampsia and now it feels like this has all gotten away from me.
