I have an SR300 from 10 or so years ago that I don't really like all that much. I don't hate it and it's a technically well made and nice feeling bass but it has a lot less character than my other basses so I'm largely neutral towards it. I'll play it when I need it for a certain sound or whatever but I just don't enjoy playing it the way I do with some other basses I have. My suspicion is that it's something to do with the pickups but the bass was a birthday present so for whatever reason I don't want to go crazy modding it.
I'm now looking for a 5 and Talmans keep coming up. Has anyone played both a Talman and an SR and did the Talman feel like it had more personality? I can't easily get to a store that has a Talman 5 so can't try it for myself. I'm absolutely thinking of reading the pickups and electronics in one if i do get one so if the SR and Talman have the same vibe but it just needs a pickup swap to fix that that would also be useful information
