Spider Man No Way Home - fans predicted exactly how Tobey and Andrew would appear, so Jon Watts changed it. The original concept had Tom Holland’s Peter mourning May on a rooftop, where portals would open and Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men would emerge. Watts went on Reddit during production and found fan art depicting essentially that exact scene. So their introductions were moved to the random scene in Ned’s grandmother’s house, with Ned and MJ finding them first.

DC Armageddon 2001 - The crossover was structured around discovering which present-day superhero would eventually become the dictator Monarch. The intended answer was Captain Atom, and the clues were built accordingly. His identity leaked before the finale, so DC changed Monarch to Hank Hall/Hawk at essentially the last minute.

Rick and Morty - Dan Harmon said the writers conceived a “fundamental secret” during Season 1 that was supposed to become a huge reveal several seasons later, with earlier episodes constructed so it would make sense in retrospect. By Season 2, writer Mike McMahan came in and told them that fans online had already theorized exactly that so that idea was scrapped.

Sieges where both sides are effectively racing against the clock: reinforcements are on the way, so the defenders don’t necessarily need to defeat the attackers,they only need to hold out long enough for help to arrive.

Battle for Helms Deep (Lord of the Rings) Théoden’s force is being ground down through the night, the Deeping Wall is breached, and the defenders are reduced to the Hornburg. At dawn Théoden and Aragorn ride out, and Gandalf arrives with Erkenbrand and roughly a thousand men, turning the battle.

Siege of Terra (40k) The Traitor Legions had to break Terra before Loyalist reinforcements arrived. The defenders only needed to hold out, and by the climax of the Siege, Guilliman and the Ultramarines were only about nine hours away. Truly a race against time.

Bastogne (IRL) German forces surrounded Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge, while the American defenders knew Allied forces were attempting to break through to them. Supplies and ammunition became critical, but the defenders held until elements of Patton’s Third Army broke the encirclement on December 26, 1944.

I don’t necessarily think that they’re poorly written. In fact, there are a lot of things I actually kinda like about their group. That being said, I thought all of the characters were very unlikable, and they all treated Coen like crap. Halfway through my first playthrough, I was just kinda like, “Why does Coen even need these guys?” and basically dropped them from that point on.

I’m curious to know how others felt about them… because tone-wise they feel like a group that Coen initially thought he needed until he realized that he outgrew them.

He earned his PhD in history in 1953.

Atlas Corporation (Call of Duty Advanced Warfare) Atlas is billionaire Jonathan Irons personal army equipped with technology exceeding that of many national armies. Atlas soldiers enforce one wealthy man’s political vision while he presents his private interests as global stability.

The Urban Rehabilitators (RoboCop 3) The Rehabs are OCP’s heavily armed private security army. Their mission is not really public safety: it is to evict Detroit residents at gunpoint, crush local resistance and clear the land for OCP’s profitable Delta City project.

Mr. House’s Securitrons (Fallout: New Vegas) Mr House’s army of robots that answer only to him The Securitrons patrol the Strip, intimidate its families and provide the force necessary for House to rule New Vegas as his privately owned technocratic state.

The Minotaurs (40k) Minotaurs are technically an independent Space Marine Chapter, but they function as the High Lords of Terra’s attack dogs. They are deployed against rebellious Imperial institutions, including other Space Marines, when the High Lords need overwhelming violence without relying upon ordinary Imperial forces. In exchange the Minotaurs get near unlimited resources and can get away with near anything without punishment.

Shaming (Shadow of War) Shaming breaks an orc’s mind… if they aren’t completely broken as an individual, they are mocked and scorned by all other orcs… Orcs you shame even say they wish you had just killed them instead… also, when shaming an orc, there is a chance it turns them feral and now basically just a violent animal.

Anchorite (Warhammer 40k) Is a condemned sister of battle sealed inside a war machine called a mortifier and wired into constant pain. The armor is not meant to protect her… it is to prevent her from having a quick death. The sister is forever trapped in darkness and isolation while the machine amplifies her suffering and guilt… essentially stuck in a walking torture chamber.

Mario Games - Most 3D Mario games Mario will fall asleep if you don’t do anything for a while.

Sonic CD - In a lot of Sonic games, Sonic will get visibly annoyed with you, the player, for not doing anything… in Sonic CD, he’ll get bored and just leave the game, and regardless of how many lives you still had, the game is over.

Stanley Parable - It gives you an achievement if you don’t play the game for 10 years.

The Ishvalan War of Extermination (Fullmetal Alchemist) was a civil war between the Amestris government and the minority Ishvalans. The end result was a significant portion of Ishvalans being killed and their homeland destroyed. Many of the characters are veterans of this conflict, and the reasons for why it happened haunt the overarching story.

Order 66 (Star Wars) When the Jedi were nearly wiped out by the clone armies, and most post-clone wars era stories can’t not mention Order 66 as all Jedi left are survivors of said Order.

Isstvan III Atrocity (Horus Heresy 30k) A battle that happened very early during the Horus Heresy was when all the traitor legions sent their suspected loyalist Space Marines to the planet of Isstvan and then virus-bombed the planet, killing nearly all of the Space Marines. A few scattered groups survived, and it turned into a long, drawn-out extermination as the traitors eventually killed their former battle brothers. A small handful of loyalists were able to escape the planet and warned the Imperium of Man of the uprising, which effectively marked the beginning of the civil war.
