Hi everyone! I’m a high school senior from South Korea, and I recently got off the waitlist for GTech's undergraduate CS program. However, I had already been accepted to UC Berkeley’s College of Engineering, though not directly for CS/EECS. I would be entering Berkeley as an engineering student, and EECS is in the same college, but I know switching into EECS may not be guaranteed.

I understand that this subreddit is mostly for college students, graduates, or people already working in the CS industry, so I apologize if this is not the usual type of post. Still, I wanted to ask for advice from people alr in this industry.

My main concern is career opportunities. Between Georgia Tech CS and UC Berkeley Engineering, which option would likely give me a better shot at strong CS internships and full-time jobs in Tech? I know both schools have excellent reputations, strong alumni networks, and great recruiting, but I’m trying to understand the practical difference from a career perspective.

For Georgia Tech, I would be admitted directly into CS, which feels more secure academically and professionally. For Berkeley, the school’s overall reputation and proximity to Silicon Valley are very appealing, but I’m not currently admitted as an EECS/CS major.

I need to finalize my college decision by today, so I would really appreciate any honest advice, especially from people who have experience recruiting from either school or working with students from these programs.

Thank you so much!

UC Berkeley or Georgia Tech? URGENT!!!

Hi everyone! I’m a high school senior from South Korea, and I recently got off the waitlist for Georgia Tech’s undergraduate Computer Science program.

Still, I wanted to ask for advice from people who know the CS recruiting landscape better than I do.

My main concern is career opportunities. Between Georgia Tech CS and UC Berkeley Engineering, which option would likely give me a better shot at strong CS internships and full-time jobs in the tech industry? I know both schools have excellent reputations, strong alumni networks, and great recruiting, but I’m trying to understand the practical difference from a career perspective.

For Georgia Tech, I would be admitted directly into CS, which feels more secure academically and professionally. For Berkeley, the school’s overall reputation and proximity to Silicon Valley are very appealing, but I’m not currently admitted as an EECS/CS major, so I’m unsure how much that would affect access to CS classes, recruiting, and internship opportunities.

I need to finalize my college decision by today, so I would really appreciate any honest advice, especially from people who have experience recruiting from either school or working with students from these programs.

Thank you so much!

Hello, I recently got accepted to the CO 2030 College of Engineering at UCB as an environmental engineering major, but I JUST GOT OFF WAITLIST for CS in georgia tech. I know it's weird how I applied as an environmental engineering student for UCB, but as an international student from South Korea, this was my only option to get into one of my dream schools (also, I had some extracurricular activities involving environmental engineering and cs so...).

ANYWAYS, my initial plans were to change majors to EECS or ECE at UCB, but I recently found out that they changed the requirements for changing majors to EECS. If it's almost impossible to change majors to EECS, I think I will probably go to Georgia Tech (good job opportunities + low tuition + good cs), but if it's not, I really want to stay in UCB b/c of Silicon Valley and also other job opportunities.

I HAVE TO MAKE THIS DECISION BY TOMORROW, SO PLEASE, LEND ME A HAND BY GIVING YOUR HONEST OPINION. THANK YOU!!!
