Accidentally listed current school on background check after being told not to—how screwed am I?
Hi everyone,
I just received an internship offer for a tech company and I’m currently in the onboarding/background check phase. I think I messed up and I'm spiraling a bit.
The onboarding email specifically told me NOT to list my current university on the verification service form because it wouldnt be able to verify it. Im in peak midterm season and in my stress/excitement, I went on autopilot and listed it anyway.
I realized the mistake immediately after hitting submit and have already emailed my recruiter to explain that it was a clerical error.
Has anyone else done this? Does a discrepancy like this (listing info they told you to skip) usually lead to a rescinded offer, or will they just ask me to redo it? I'm a student and really don't want to lose this opportunity over a technicality.
Any advice from recruiters or people who have been in this spot would be amazing. Thanks!
