Hi everyone,
I’ve been invited as a guest to a wedding, and I also have a major state exam at the end of the year that requires a suit. Consequently, it’s finally time for me to get a properly fitting suit.
I’ve ordered trousers from SuitSupply several times before and I’m a big fan of their fabric quality for the price, which is why I’d really like my suit to be from them as well.
Here’s my challenge: I have quite broad shoulders and a distinct V-taper. The last time I was in a regular menswear store, the consultant told me that with my build, I’ll never get a good fit off the rack without a tailor—otherwise, the jacket will just hang off me like a sack in the waist area.
Unfortunately, the nearest physical SuitSupply store is a 3-hour drive away (6 hours round trip).
Is it a valid strategy to order the suit online, find the size that fits perfectly in the shoulders, and then take it to a reputable local tailor to have the waist and sleeves taken in? Or is the SuitSupply in-store tailoring service so specialized that it’s worth the long drive?
Would love to hear from anyone with a similar athletic build who has gone the 'online-purchase + local-tailor' route!
