Been a shakey fan since I stumbled upon that video of him explaining how he got his name and playing late July like 10 or so years ago. Subsequently ripped his early albums like roll the bones from YouTube before he had anything officially published. He even inspired me to build a suitcase kick drum / tambourine and I used to do solo shows before covid.

Being a fan I know a few tid bits about his life such as he moved out to California young to try an acting career, got some small roles, didn't really make it, dislikes CA, hates the Sad City of Angels" who ain't been very good to him, and moved back to Austin and picked up a guitar.

Anyway, saw him last night in Sacramento and it was one of the best times I've seen him because its the first time I've seen him without a band and ive always wanted that experience. It was mostly solo and another guy with a guitar would come out every once in a while. It was great.

Because I've seen him like 4 times I didn't bother getting there early. I was content being in the back of the crowd and just listening. Had I known it was a solo show I might have gotten there early.

Anywho, at a certain point he was telling this story about what a lovely time he had in sacramento years ago so much so that he has a tattoo of the sacramento skyline and he lifted his arm and kinda pointed, but I was so far back I couldn't see.

The way he talks it always sounds like he's kinda fucking with you so I'm not sure if its true... also he has traveled the world and no offense to you Sacramentans, but this place can be kinda lame sometimes compared to a lot of big cities, and it would be kinda funny to claim to have a tattoo of a lame-ish city in front of 1000 people who know their city isn't awesome.

Does anybody know if this is true, or was he screwing with us?
