Turbinate Hypertrophy
I’ve had severe chronic nasal congestion basically my entire life. I’ve been allergy tested twice and both came back negative.
An ENT initially had me try combinations of steroid sprays, oral/nasal antihistamines, saline rinses, and medicated neti pot rinses over a couple years, but I never got significant relief.
Eventually I had imaging done, which showed a deviated septum and enlarged/inflamed turbinates. My ENT recommended septoplasty/turbinate reduction surgery.
The problem is that my congestion is severe enough that I often can’t breathe through my nose properly at all, which affects my sleep, energy, and overall quality of life. But after reading about Empty Nose Syndrome (ENS), I’m honestly terrified of surgery.
