Where I work we have fridges for lunches and personal lockers. We are not allowed to have open drinks in fridges or lockers because of spills. In less than 1 yr my items have been ruined numerous times. When my lunchbox and food was ruined in fridge hr said I was to blame for using fridge. They said it’s my responsibility to remove open drinks (it’s not and we aren’t allowed to touch others things). When I said the iced coffee that was dumped on my stuff was put in after mine they said there’s nothing they can do to enforce rule. I did suggest they set aside an area in one of the fridges for drinks since obviously people aren’t following the unenforceable rule. I stopped using the fridges and don’t bring anything cold since I have to keep lunch in locker(they are small ).

Yesterday I got to work and there was a post it on my locker. The person above mine spilled coffee they had left in locker. It got into my locker and all over everything I keep in there. Again I had to throw ruined stuff away. I reported it to hr and asked to be moved to an upper locker . I shouldn’t have to keep having items ruined because of a rule that they refuse to enforce or penalize for. It’s not just to prevent items being ruined or messy spills. It has also attracted ants and the lockers and locker rooms had to all be cleaned and treated for pests.

My request to have my locker moved was denied and told to not use it if it’s an issue. Most are vacant at the moment so I’m not asking anyone to be moved. We can’t keep items on us in manufacturing areas We aren’t allowed to go to our cars while on clock so can’t leave my items out there and go out to car on break. Is the company responsible if items keep being destroyed in my personal locker when they refuse to enforce their own rules? especially when they don’t allow you to have them on you or allow vehicle access. I’m not asking to be financially reimbursed just moved to prevent more personal damages.
