Failed a Graduating Senior
I had about 60 students this semester. I failed three. One was a graduating senior. He failed all four quizzes and the midterm and final. He did only ok on all the open assessments (ie projects and case study prep that he no doubt outsourced to Chat).
After weeks of pleading and then threatening to appeal the grade, he appealed the grade. The appeal was of course denied because I cross my Ts and dot my Is.
So, he then sends me a “Final Email” where he discusses how disappointed he and his family are in me and that my mistreatment of him will leave a stain on his time at xxx university. Finally, he advises me to never treat another student so poorly, esp a graduating senior.
I really want to email back and tell him that I hope with time he is able to reflect on this experience and learn the obvious lesson. That we should always expect to be held accountable for our actions and nobody deserves credit for something they haven’t earned, that you must complete the whole 26.2 miles.
Should I just hit delete or should I respond? I had a good relationship with this student until the F so I would love to say something but my legalistic take is just delete and move on with my summer.
