Astigmatism in 3.5 year old kid

My 3.5-year-old was recently prescribed glasses for astigmatism.
Prescription (approx.):
Right eye: CYL -1.00
Left eye: CYL -1.50
No squint/strabismus according to the pediatric eye doctor.
The doctor recommended wearing the glasses regularly, and we’re trying to understand what “full-time wear” means in real life.
For parents whose children started wearing glasses around this age:
How many hours per day did your child wear them?
Did your ophthalmologist recommend all waking hours, or was 8 hours/day considered enough?
How long did it take for your child to get used to wearing glasses?
Did follow-up visits show improvement or stabilization of vision?
I’d appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks!

3-year-old with astigmatism (-1.00 and -1.50) – looking for experiences?

A 3-year-old was recently diagnosed with astigmatism (-1.00 in one eye and -1.50 in the other), and the eye doctor recommended wearing glasses full-time starting now.

Has anyone been through something similar with their child?

  • Did the child adapt to wearing glasses easily?
  • Did the astigmatism improve, stay the same, or get worse over time?
  • Were there any issues with vision development or amblyopia ("lazy eye")?
  • Any tips for helping a toddler get used to glasses?
  • Will it cause any squint in the future?

3-year-old with astigmatism (-1.00 and -1.50) – looking for experiences?

A 3-year-old was recently diagnosed with astigmatism (-1.00 and -1.50). The pediatric ophthalmologist has recommended starting glasses full-time.

Has anyone else's child had a similar diagnosis at this age?

  • Did wearing glasses help with the squint?
  • How long did it take to notice any improvement?
  • Did your child eventually need patching or surgery, or were glasses enough?
  • Any tips for getting a toddler to wear glasses consistently?

Would love to hear your experiences and any advice. Thank you!
