Hi all, in September of 2025 I moved into my current flat which is student accommodation. When I moved in and as I was signing my paperwork, I read through all of the documentation. Within this, there are several things that are incorrect such as having single glazing rather than the double which is on paper, and it states that there is no asbestos on the property.

I recently went on holiday and when I got back I had a letter from the council saying that there is asbestos on the property and that they are having to hold back any work on it by 6 months. This is the first time I have had of there being asbestos on the property and had I known that though is especially with the condition that the building is in (EG huge cracks in the ceiling, lots of black mold, the thing for steam coming up over the hob falling out the wall and onto my head, parts of ceilings in other flats coming through and parts of the ceiling starting to peel) I would not have moved in. I cannot say whether or not it is or if it isn't asbestos, but within the rear end of the building where the lack of maintenance is most prominent, there is lots of almost glittery and shiny dust.

All of my documentation is additionally for a different flat in this block as it was occupied at the time I moved in.

Is there anything that can be done legally? Such as compensation or being able to end my tendency early without fees. Many thanks.
