Portfolio Recover Suing. Did I waste my money hiring an attorney?
Was recently served because of a little over $6000. I tried to call and negotiate with them but the guy wouldn’t budge lower than $4850.
I paid $750 to a firm that handles cases like this and today she sent me an update.
“Upon opening your matter, we reached out to opposing counsel and secured a new answer due date and an initial settlement proposal. Your answer is now due on July 23, 2026 . This means that on that date you will need to have settled this matter or filed an answer on your own to prevent a default and default from being entered. A default can be filed any time after July 23, 2026.

Any advice is appreciated here because this is getting stressful and it feels like I just added $750 to the debt owed.
