mid Fall Southern Italy trip recommendations (Sept 15-Oct22)
I'm planning a Fall trip for myself and husband (62,59). We've been to Italy a lot, and have hit all the main cities over the last few years, multiple times. We fly into Naples and will spend a few days there. It's one of our favorite cities. We then head to Siena (another fave) for a week long intensive Italian course. After that, we have a fairly open schedule until we fly home on Oct 22.
We love Umbria and will prob stay in Perugia for a few days, but would like to head east beach coast and south. In my head I envision a clockwise loop ending back in Naples for our flight home. I've always wanted to see Matera and Lecce, but other than that I don't know where to land for a few days each time. We'd prefer to not have to hire a car, so access to rail or bus is preferred. I'm not ruling it out though.
Would love to hear your tips, favorite towns, b&bs, hotels, any other off the beaten path recommendations as we plot out this longer than usual vacation. Thanks all!
