Hi everyone,

I’m trying to repair an Epson PowerLite 8100 projector and could use some help.

A few days ago, the projector shut down due to overheating. After that, I started noticing a large green/yellowish discoloration (a kind of “aura” or tint) in the center of the image. It’s not a sharp line, more like a diffused color shift.

I’ve already:

  • Cleaned the air filter (it wasn’t very dirty)
  • Verified that warm air is coming out of the exhaust
  • Added an external fan temporarily to improve cooling

The projector now turns on and runs, but the color issue remains.

From what I’ve researched, this seems like a damaged optical block (LCD panels / polarizers), likely caused by heat.

My questions:

  • Does this diagnosis sound correct?
  • Is there any way to repair the polarizers only, or does the entire optical block need replacement?
  • Where can I find a replacement optical block (or compatible part) for the Epson 8100 / 8500UB?
  • Has anyone successfully repaired this model?

Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
