I need advice

I just adopted this guy from a shelter three days ago, his name is Thrasher :)

I’m still learning him, every dog is different but he’s super sweet and very vocal, husky type vocal lol and he’s 3 years old. I’m also his third owner, his last two died. He’s pretty well trained in certain areas, very house broken, kennel trained, and doesn’t pull on the leash and will heel but then forget after a minute. He knows how to sit, lay down, and shake but this big lug is a huge ball of energy and it’s hard for get him to calm down, when you try to calm him down he whines and can’t stay still and it’s hard to get him to focus on you, he has a very short attention span.

I think he’s stressed and won’t eat much. I’m sure it’s hard for a dog to be born in a shelter to then a home then to shelter again, home to shelter, and then to another home he doesn’t quite know yet and I’m still a stranger. If his eating doesn’t improve I’m taking him to the vet. He just won’t touch his food but doesn’t starve himself.

I’ve been super patient and I’ve been giving him all the patience he needs. Been doing calm routines like walking and small training sessions, quality time like playing fetch with his favorite ball, tugging with his favorite toy, and laying together quietly for bonding. I try not to over comfort his whining. He whines a lot. When he’s super hyper I ignore sometimes and stay calm until he calms but it takes a while. I don’t want to overstimulate him.

I’m looking for any advice. I’m trying to do a good job for this sweet hyper boy. Just he has a hard time focusing and eating.
