NJ/NY/PA - Psych eval with treated/stable OCD history

Hello!

I'm curious if any current or former NJ/NY/PA LEOs have any insight on this:

  • If a candidate received an NOPD letter from the NYPD due to taking psych meds, what chances do they have in NJ or other NY/PA agencies? For context, their psychiatrist has cleared them to taper off medication due to sustained stability.
  • I'm currently in the process of appealing the NOPD. Would NJ/PA departments view the pending disqualification the same way, or are they more lenient and willing to work with you?

Other background information:

  • No arrests or legal issues
  • Several degrees
  • Always held stable jobs; looking to change careers
  • OCD history — treated successfully, currently stable and tapering off medication under psychiatrist's guidance

Any insight appreciated!

Breaking into 1811 without LE background — also psych eval questions

Hello!

Has anyone here made it into federal law enforcement without a traditional law enforcement background? Curious what paths people took and whether the lack of prior LE experience was a significant hurdle during the hiring process.

Also, how strict is the psych evaluation in your experience? Specifically wondering about OCD that was treated and is now well-managed to the point where a psychiatrist has cleared the person to taper off medication due to stability. Is a history like that typically disqualifying, or does the "currently stable and medication-free" picture matter more to adjudicators?

Appreciate any insight from people who've been through the process.
