I have seen much discussions and hate on profs of Mechanical Engineering and hate for ME department as well. One of my friend's son is in 3rd year now so I was curious to find out more. Also I have few of my friends as staff the NIT Durgapur too. And here's what I got to know 😄

1. SSR is toxic. Period. There have been many complaints against him and college has done nothing.

2. The deptt is old, labs are pretty obselete but there are some goof profs there. My friend's son keeps saying the name of A Goswami who taught welding in his 4th sem. Then there's NBH (Prof Nirmal), S Mondal, J Dhar, R Kumar etc. From what I gathered they are interested in teaching and does a decent job of it.

3. Many alumnis got decently placed. Some are working for their higher studies, many are in good enough jobs.

If anyone is trying to decide about college, MEch deptt of NIT Durgapur maynot be that bad.
But each to his own.

If anyone disagrees with any of these points please feel free to refute and/or add more information. Especially the previous students can add valuable information

One of my known is going to get internship with AG of ME deptt. From my relative's son (2nd yr ME deptt.) I have heard that AG is ok as a person.

Can anyone tell me more about him - as a teacher or superviosr ? Is he very strict ??

Recently I think a batch completed its B.Tech. Many people must have shared pics and from one of my relative's son (he finished 2nd year) I too saw those pics.
I saw students mingling freely with the profs. I saw one guy in black t shirt playing basketball with students, profs posing for pictures etc.
The relative's son told me about farewell also that happened.

My question is, I thought ME deptt. was bad but from the pics it didn't appear so. So what is the truth ?
