80+ AFQT, but only being offered Infantry — what should I do?
I scored an 80+ AFQT on the ASVAB, but my recruiter hasn’t shared my line scores with me yet. I was told that my score would make me eligible for a lot of jobs, but when I went to MEPS a few weeks ago, I was told I only qualified for Infantry.
I’m currently about 1% over the allowable body-fat limit, so my plan is to take a few weeks to a month to lose that 1% and return to MEPS. I gave my recruiter a list of five MOSs I’d like to pursue once I’m within the required body-fat limit. Someone recently told me that my recruiter should have requested/reserved a job for me earlier in the process, especially since I’ve already been working with him for several months. Is that actually how the process works? Should my recruiter have been checking for/reserving MOSs based on my qualifications before I went to MEPS, or is it normal for job selection to wait until I’m fully qualified and ready to enlist?
Also, is there anything I should be doing now to make sure I’m considered for my preferred MOSs when I return?
