Essentially kings mountain national military park, kings mountain state park(SC) and crowders mountain state park(NC) are in the kings mountain eco region, and make up a significant portion of said ecoregion.

Essentially a mountain area located within the piedmont, thus disconnected from other mountain areas, enough for it to be considered a unique eco region.

As for Kings Mountain National Military Park, it’s the site of the 1780 battle of kings mountain which occured during the American revolution. The site is managed by the national parks service.

There was a huge event there in the 1930s and a huge amount of forest was completely destroyed in order to have space for the event. That plus logging prior is why the area is not old growth forest. However the park has since been reforested.

The park is managed by the national parks service. Which is a selling point for going there, the National park service just does a really good job at restoring native habitat and providing meaningful ecological/historical information.

Cape Lookout National Seahshore in North Carolina

The horses were near Shacklesford banks, they went to some salt marsh and got stuck out there when high tide happened. I saw it on the ferry on my way to the South Core Banks, which is the island with the Lighthouse.

Edit: Seashore not Seahshore. Sorry.

How would you feel about somewhere like Catoctin Mountain Park or Prince William Forest Park being redesignated as a National Park?

Essentially there are a few places managed by the national park service which are just “parks”. There’s a bunch of just normal parks managed by the NPS in DC, but also a significantly larger ones like this in Virginia and Maryland. There’s the ones in the title plus some somewhat smaller ones like Greenbelt Park or Fort Washington Park.

Do you think like Catoctin Mountain or Prince William Forest is deserving of capital NP status?

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Went a couple weeks back. Did some stuff around the Ocunluftee area then drove up to Kuwohi. Didn’t go to Cade’s cove or much of the Tennessee side other then Kuwohi.

Carl Sandberg National Historic Site

Much more hiking oriented then you’d think, especially since a bridge broke down meaning to get to the visitor center(which is inside the house) you have to hike around a lake. Plus there’s lots of trails behind the house.

Not my favorite NPS site I went to recently but definitely a lot more interesting than one would think. There are goats there.
