Hey everyone,

I’ve had a few people come by and look at this hole in my siding located near the stairs. I should mention that there are currently chipmunks coming in and out of that hole. I have had two different proposed solutions.

The vinyl and siding guys opted for removing the siding, replacing the wood behind it, and putting new siding on.

The handyman who has done brick work and construction his whole life told me that the stairs are settling, which is allowing water to get behind my front steps and rot the wood. Basically we need to redo the stairs for a long-term fix.

So I guess my question is what would you do and why?

Also does 3000$ sound like a ballpark quote to replace the brick stairs? Seems far too cheap.
