Does anyone know what the gemarah is referring to when it says olive oil causes harm?

On 35b on brachos the gemarah says you don't make a bracha on olive oil if drunken straight since it is damaging. What exactly is the damage olive oil does, the gemarah rashi and tosafot do not explain.

As the title says, I'm wondering if a non religious person can count for a minyan. As I understand it, the shulchan aruch and mishneh berurah both pasken no, while rav moshe feinstein is more lenient and says they can, if no one else is available.

I have actually a few questions about this. First is what is considered non religious for all 3 (they may use different criteria to consider someone non religious)? Is it private disbelief in God? Is it a formal conversion to another religion? Is it someone who publicly (which i'd ask what exactly is considered public) violates sabbath?

Second is on what basis do the shulchan aruch and mishneh berurah say no whole rav moshe feinstein says yes? To me it seems odd for rav moshe feinstein to argue on both the mishneh berurah and shulchan aruch, as far as I understand it that's not very common.
