I’m curious if there’s a new brand of credit card fraud anyone is aware of….I had two credit cards skimmed in the same time frame. I was able to find the overlapping charge was a local gas station. The person is using the cards what looks like primarily through Apple Pay and mobile apps. They’ve made multiple attempts to order food through fast food apps, one charge in person. Whoever this person is, they’re local to the town I live in because the chain location number on the charge is in my town.
What I’m confused by is the first compromised card was caught earliest, we had a replacement ordered and the card cancel. That bank chose not to do a total account take over closure. They simply mailed a new card. Well, this morning their fraud department called stating someone attempted to add the new card number to Apple Wallet. The replacement card hadn’t been received in the mail yet.
So for the second card…that bank chose to do a total account take over closure, they moved my entire account to a new number and issued a new card. I preemptively went into that account today and just disabled all internet click to pay, apple wallet connected services. What’s making me concerned at this point is the compromise of the replacement card before the new card was received. The bank fraud department is pretty much useless.
