These are my favorites. Heritage is real good, but it can get old. The newer ones never broke through to be favorites of mine, but I love a lot of new material.. just not whole albums.
Blackwater Park and Still Life are basically tied for #1.. BWP introduced me to Opeth so those songs are the deepest to me, but after all these years Still Life's tracks I find more interesting to hear again and again. Love Godheads & Moonlapse, Face of Melinda.. and the end of album Serenity Painted Death and White Cluster are also so rad and interesting.
BWP is such a great song. Dirge for November is a sleeper, it used to be scratched on my cd and I never heard it as a kid so it never got overplayed for me. Drapery changed my life at 13 years old, cried to it, first Opeth song I ever heard.. some of the first 'good' music I ever found.
I love Deliverence. Love all the songs, but the Masters Apprentice riff is over played for me so I can't listen any more. By The Pain I See Others is so fucking sick and underrated.
Damnation I don't go back to as much but every time I do I still love it. I think Closure is my favorite song, the instrumental parts in the middle are so cool.
Ghost Reveries is the beginning of the more modern Opeth sound from my perspective. It's gotten more modern since, but this was a step into clarity in recording I think. Absolutely love Baying of the Hounds, Beneath the Mire, Atonement and Reverie/Harlequin Forest.
Watershed is a solid album, but the last two tracks (on original release) Hessian Peel and Hex Omega are some of the best music Opeth's ever released I think.
My 2 cents !!!
