Searching for a children's book about friendship
I'm trying to find a children's picture book I read from the library between 1993-1995 (likely published in the late 80s or early 90s).
Key details:
Two little human girls (not animals) who are strangers meet at the park/playground.
One girl wears a white dress with [red or blue] polka dots/spots. The other wears a [red or blue] dress with white polka dots/spots. (The colors might be white + blue or white + red — complementary/opposite outfits.)
They play together at the park.
Then one (or both) invites the other over for tea / a tea party / playdate at home.
The theme is clearly about how to make a new friend.
Soft, simple pastel/gentle illustrations (not bold or cartoonish).
Rectangular picture book format with a simple cover. It was a sweet, gentle story emphasizing friendship. I remember the dresses standing out because they matched in a swapped-color way.
I've searched WorldCat, Google, and various book sites with no luck — it might be obscure or out-of-print. Any ideas on the title or author? Thanks so much!
