Photos being shared on whataspp frequently
I am working as an ECE at a daycare in Alberta and I am really struggling with how things are run here. From what I can tell, this setup has been in place forever, but coming in as a newly staff it feels like a massive red flag for child safety and privacy. This already uses the Lillio app to send secure updates to parents. Despite this, the director runs a staff WhatsApp group where she expects everyone to constantly upload photos of the children doing activities throughout the day. The environment feels very passive-aggressive, and it seems like she uses the chat mostly to micromanage us and judge whether we are doing a good job in our classrooms.Whenever I am in the middle of an activity with the kids, she tells me to get my phone out and take nice pictures. Because of this pressure and race to be a director's favourite teachers are spending a lot of time trying to capture the perfect angles to make the room look good for her, which actively takes their eyes off the kids, learning from activities turns into a photo session. Supervision definitely suffers because everyone is staring at their screens trying to please the director. Each teacher in the classroom sends about like 10-15 pictures during working hours. To make matters worse, she owns a second daycare location. She regularly drops photos of the children from that other building into our staff chat just to show us what their rooms are doing. I doubt if those parents have any idea their kids' faces are being shared with staff at a completely different facility.I am really worried about my job security since I just started here, but using our personal cell phones means private photos of minors are sitting on staff camera rolls and unencrypted cloud backups. Has anyone else dealt with a daycare that operates like this?
