FQHC questions!!

Just curious to hear from fellow FQHC dentists to see the variety.

What are your work hours?

How many patients a day do you typically see (with and without hygiene)?

What are your typical treatment cases like (mainly bread and butter, or a lot of endo/crowns, both)?

No shows

Any tips on how to decrease the amount of no shows you have?? I had 7 today…A LOT.🙃 Felt like I was doing nothing majority of the afternoon. I know at times it is out of our hands, but dang. Some days are way slower than others. I feel like this month in general has been nothing but slow. Really taking a hit to the productivity

Selective caries removal??

Just curious about opinions on selective caries removal vs complete caries removal and what you would do. I work at an FQHC where I get people coming in with caries very close to the pulp. Most are asymptomatic and test within normal limits to endo testing, but have high chances of pulpal exposure if complete caries removal. I don’t do endo (I just don’t like it), so closest place for some people with their Medicaid insurance end up being around 2 hours away. A lot of the teeth we refer for endo patients end up just calling requesting the tooth to be pulled because they no longer want to save it.

So… what is everyone’s opinion about selective caries removal (hate how it looks on updated imaging) vs complete caries removal and possible direct pulp cap treatment? Or just send straight to endo without touching if patient wants to try and save with high chance of pulpal exposure, even with normal testing?
