Am I cooked?

Need honest advice from people already in the industry. I’m a final year BTech student from a tier 3 college and there’s a real chance I may end up with a 5-year BTech due to one pending backlog (result not out yet, but mentally preparing for worst case).
My profile is mixed/confusing:

• 7 backlogs historically (cleared over time)
• Around 7.87 CGPA now
• AI/backend internships experience
• Published one research paper
• Trying to build a strong backend/AI profile

~ Currently pursuing an SDE internship at a small startup, secured after going through hundreds of interviews (with a potential PPO opportunity).

Worst-case plan if graduation gets delayed:

• continue internship / try PPO or apply to startups
• spend a year improving DSA, backend engineering, AI, and system design
• Clear backlog in june 2027.

I’m not asking for motivation. I want brutal honesty from people who’ve seen similar cases:
Does a 5-year BTech permanently hurt career growth in tech?

Can startups/product companies still hire if skills are solid?

Has anyone here had a comeback after poor academics/backlogs?

Right now I’m feeling pretty low and trying to understand if this is a delay in timeline or genuinely a career ending situation.
