Pittsburgh Philosophy Discussion Circle: Update and New Member Recruitment!

A little over a year ago, I started a philosophy discussion circle through this subreddit. After an initial organizing period, we began to meet twice a month, and it has been going strong since! Our group has built great rapport through discussing excellent and thought-provoking readings, and attending is always one of the highlights of my week. I say this to encourage anyone looking to build community through this subreddit that, with organization, creativity and initiative, it is very possible to build connections and find community within this environment. If you have a great idea, go for it!

On a related note, the Pittsburgh Philosophy Discussion Circle is recruiting new members. We meet twice a month at a public location in Pittsburgh to discuss a short (~20 page) reading of one of the members’ choosing for two hours. Typically, between 4 and 7 of us are able to meet, so it’s a smaller, welcoming setting. Readings have ranged from classical philosophers to contemporary essays, fiction, and journalism. We have read older authors like Nietszche and Camus and newer authors like Neil Postman and Langdon Winner.

If you have interest in learning more or joining, please leave a comment below and/or send me a message. This is a beginner-friendly group. I’m happy to answer any questions that you may have.

We are in the process of organizing our summer theme, and it would be great to welcome new members at our kick-off on June 29th!
