Told ferritin 7 was normal
I've not posted before, so I hope I'm doing this right.
I (20f) got a blood test on the NHS three years ago: Ferritin of 7 No FBC test, but told I wasn't anaemic.
GP said that this level of ferritin is at the low end of normal, so I might feel "a bit tired" and should take a multivitamin OTC. I think she was using the laboratory lower detection level of 6 as the "normal range".
I followed her advice and unsurprisingly spent the last three years feeling pretty terrible. I've been really struggling recently and feeling more brain fog and physical symptoms as well as the usual tiredness.
I hate going to the doctors, but it's finally got to the point where I can't avoid it. I have a blood test tomorrow.
I have been taking tranexamic acid for nearly three years to make my periods less heavy, so maybe my ferritin could have improved?
Has anyone else had this experience with their GP dismissing low ferritin? Has anyone had any luck with tranexamic acid?
