Help! Green Pool :(

We have a 14 ft 3700 gallon pool and came home after our week long vacation to a green pool. We checked levels with both strips and the Taylor drop kit before leaving and everything looked good. Even added some extra chlorine just in case. We’ve had the pool about a month and not had any issues yet. But we are using the dinky pump it came with.

Here are my questions:

  1. Is shock all we need to do? I vacuumed out and skimmed off as much solid debris as I could.
  2. Do we need to add liquid chlorine along with the shock or any other chemical?
  3. Any general thoughts as to what we should have done differently before leaving to prevent the green? We have another trip in a couple weeks and want to avoid this happening again!
