How long did it take you to get hired again?

I've been unemployed for about a year now, and honestly, I'm starting to feel discouraged.

I previously worked as a paraprofessional at an elementary school, but when that school closed, I wasn't placed at a new school because I was part-time that year. Since then, I've applied to numerous paraprofessional positions in my area.

The frustrating part is that I have experience, yet I can count on one hand how many interviews I've gotten. I've updated my resume, and even reached out directly to principals. Most of the time, I don't get a response at all.

A few weeks ago, I was actually scheduled for another interview, but that particular school called me back minutes later and canceled it, saying they were “going a different route.” That one caught me off guard.

I know people say to keep applying and not give up, but after a year, it's hard not to feel hopeless. Has anyone else gone through something similar? If so, what finally helped you start getting interviews or job offers?
