Hi everyone,

I’m an incoming international freshman. My first choice is to apply for a Hall double room (with A.C.) with a friend, but if we can’t stay together, I’d probably prefer a single room in a House.

How difficult is it for two freshmen to get assigned to the same double room in Hall? Are there any ways to increase our chances?

Given my situation, would you recommend applying for the Hall double room with my friend or choosing a House single room instead?

I'm an incoming NUS freshman and will be applying for accommodation soon.

My preferred option is to stay in a Hall of Residence and share a double room (with A.C.) with a friend. However, if I am unable to get the same room as my friend, I would prefer to stay in a single room in one of the Houses instead.

I'm a bit confused about how the application process works:

1. Can I apply for both a Hall double room with my friend?
2. If my friend and I are not allocated the same room, can I then apply for a House single room afterwards?
3. When will I know whether my friend and I have successfully been allocated the same room?
4. If I accept a room offer from my first hostel application, can I later cancel it and submit a new application for a different accommodation type? For example, switching from a Hall double room to a House single room.

I'd really appreciate any advice from seniors who have gone through the hostel application process before.
