To Bird or Not to Bird
So I am the proud owner of two Quakers a male about 11 months and a female, whom had her gender reveal today when i got DNA results. She is about 8 months old. Needless to say I’m addicted. I reallllyyy want to get a third baby, in fact, I may have already placed a deposit down on a DNA-sexed FEMALE Lutino…oops. You see my dilema now I know the dynamic of 3 Quakers isn’t ideal, I was almost 90% sure I had two males before having my girl sexed, but on the contrary, I was wrong. She is spunky, and I’d say definitely more assertive than my male. Now that I know, it makes sense I do see a difference in temperament between the two. I believe they are bonded pretty well so far, as separating them out of sight from each other makes them flock call like crazy. They’re always preening and cuddling until one preens too hard and it triggers a “beakdown”. I got them both around the same time maybe a week apart. And I’ve only had them for about 4 months so far. My main concern is, is it a good idea to introduce another Quaker and a female of all things? My pair are caged together and do quite well for now so until they become hormonal/show inclinations of breeding I am will just leave them together for now. I have a spare separate cage for the new girl ready to go and she would never be introduced to their cage. Should I cancel the new baby while there is still time? What are your success (or unsuccess) stories with a similar Quaker dynamics?
