So I got picked up by a taxi in Xinyi district around 1:30 AM for a 12 minute drive back to my hotel. Before the ride, I checked the uber app and it said it shouldn’t cost more than $210 NTD (~$7 USD). The driver didn’t tell me the price initially, but 2 minutes into the ride, he told me to pay him $700 NTD (~$22 USD) which I thought was crazy for a 12 minute drive home. I told the driver to just drop me off on the spot and he still told me to pay him $200 NTD ($6 USD). I got a new uber and asked him if I got scammed which he said yes, “$700 is way too high.” The new uber back home costed $185 NTD (~$6 USD) and once we arrived, the driver started joking with me “ohhh so cheap 😭”

Did I get scammed? Is this a normal occurrence in Xinyi?

Edit: I took a video of the interaction and got like half of his face on camera if it helps my case. Is there any way I can report this thru email or in person? Don’t have a local number so I wouldn’t be able to call.
