How do you attend job interviews with no annual leave left?

I am in the process of looking for new jobs. The issue is, I have no annual leave remaining for the rest of the year (until October) so I would not be able to take the day off for a job interview.

I know people sometimes just call in sick but I really dislike being dishonest and I'd be concerned my current workplace would ask the new one when I had been interviewed if they were asked for references and if it came out I was lying it would risk both jobs.

I also can't take unpaid leave as it has to be approved through HR and my line manager and you have to provide a good reason for it, and I think it has to be done weeks in advance anyway.

I guess I don't really have much choice but to take a risk and just try the sick route. I have considered asking if I could attend an interview remotely and try to do it in work hours as my only option but I'd feel this would be jeopardising my chances somehow. Thanks.

Edit: thanks for all the replies everyone!
