Suggestions for first credit card
Hi folks,
Need suggestions for first credit card 💳
Age: 24 Salary: 36K in-hand. Salary account in HDFC from last 2 years
I''m pretty much a chai-tapri and local kirana kind of person for groceries, credit cards aren't even a thing at those places. Online shopping is maybe once or twice a month on Amazon or Flipkart, same with Swiggy or Zomato. UPI handles most of my payments, though honestly I still lean towards cash when I can.
No car/bike either, so metro is how I get around so fuel benefits are completely irrelevant for me right now.
I've actually worked in the credit card industry, so I know the drill : interest charges, late fees, cash advance fees, markup fee, all of it. And yes, I mean actually paying the complete bill due, not just the minimum due.
From what I've seen on the subreddit, the general advice is to go with HDFC's core credit cards, preferably LTF, and just hold them long-term to build a solid credit history. I'm currently being offered the Moneyback Plus, but it's not LTF.
So I'm wondering should I take it or wait? And what other cards make sense for someone like me if the goal is building good credit while actually earning something useful — travel points, hotel bookings, flight redemptions, holiday packages, vouchers, that kind of thing?
Open to any suggestions or advice here.
