I’m thinking about buying my third monitor, and I’m currently looking at a 4K 240Hz monitor with dual mode, so it can also run 1080p at 480Hz.
For me, that sounds awesome because I feel like I can take full advantage of my GPU in two different ways. For competitive games like CS2, Fortnite, COD, and similar titles, I can go full focus on high FPS and high refresh rate at 1080p 480Hz. Then, when I want to play big single-player games with beautiful graphics, like God of War, Elden Ring, Red Dead Redemption 2, Horizon, and so on, I can switch to 4K 240Hz and enjoy the visuals at a much higher resolution.
So on one side, I get extreme high FPS for competitive gaming, and on the other side, I get 4K at up to 240Hz for story games, where most big titles probably won’t even go above 240 FPS anyway.
There is also another monitor I’m considering: a 1440p 500Hz monitor. That also makes sense to me because 1440p is still sharp and good-looking, while 500Hz would be amazing for competitive gaming. So with that option, I could kind of get a balance between good visuals and extreme performance.
That’s why I’m trying to get some clarity before buying. My setup is a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and an RTX 5070 Ti, and I really enjoy both competitive games and big single-player titles.
So my question is: with my CPU and especially my GPU, what would you recommend I pick?
Should I go for the 4K 240Hz dual-mode monitor with 1080p 480Hz, or the 1440p 500Hz monitor and why?
I want to take full advantage of my RTX 5070 Ti, but I’m not sure which option makes the most sense for someone who enjoys both high-level competitive games and beautiful single-player games.
