Persistently raised ALT/AST/GGT
Hi all!
My liver enzymes, ALT, AST and GGT have been raised on blood tests consistently over the last year or so (and potentially longer. My other markers such as ALP, Albumin and Bilirubin suggest my liver is functioning well.
ALT around 100 currently and my GGT has raised from about 120 to 200 - the recent raise is likely supplement related (I added multiple to try help the liver and also lower my SHBG and increase free testosterone).
I’ve previously been tested for Hepatitis and my ultrasound came back clear, I’m lean and strength train 4 times per week with 10,000 steps daily. Currently I rarely drink alcohol, about once a month if that and not in excess.
Throughout this time I’ve been taking creatine, at a dose of up to 10g a day at times and Vitamin D as well as Whey Protein. Many other supplements as well but when I first found out about the raised enzymes, it was just those 3.
I’m awaiting referral from the NHS to Hepatology but this is a slow process. I’ve previously seen a Hepatologist but I’m not sure what tests he ran and a lot of the time with him was a case of let’s retest in 8 weeks and see if things have changed.
So my question is, does anyone have any advice regarding the supplements, (which I’ve now stopped) and any other thoughts on what could be causing this? Generally I don’t really have any symptoms other than a little bit of fatigue but I’ve always just assumed that’s due to having 2 kids and spending a lot of time working and training…
Thank you
