SOTB and the folly of stacking

SOTB and the folly of stacking

I recently added the Kingsley Page TS and vibe machine and, for the first time in awhile, moved away from stacking drives like the lightspeed, KoT, TS10, EAE Citadel etc to achieve my gain stages. I had been trying different combinations of various pedals and found some really awesome combinations to stack together but inevitably there was always one permutation that didn't works as well so I kept trying news ones.

I eventually found myself with four individual dives that could be dialed in to achieve a low gain (peacemaker), medium light (page TS), crunch (Seventy4) and high gain (Kraken) and then use the gigrig QMX4 to switch between them with one click. I think I've finally figured out that stacking isn't always the best way. it's great for 1-2 dives if you only play a certain style that only requires a narrow range of tones but this board can cover anything from jazz to classic rock to trash metal. Gone are the issues with volume or EQ that change once you stack and you can really home in on the perfect sound for each gain stage.

I still have a clean boost for solos and also a fuzz which I often stack with the peacemaker but the main gain stages don't stack at all and I'm kind of loving it.
