I’m about to graduate from undergrad with a degree in math. Whenever I tell people, they see it as an opportunity to tell me how much they hate math. I find this so weird. Any other field/subject it would be weird to tell someone you hate the thing they study and are passionate about, so why do people think it’s not weird to tell me how much they hate math?

Edit: I understand them saying they’re terrible at math or could never do it themselves, but telling me about how much they hate it seems a bit strong to me.
