I need help with an item I want to animate!

I'm currently trying to animate someone cooking donuts (in the same sort of genre as those lego cooking/ ghibli cooking videos) and as thus I need a torus where I can stretch the inner circumference at a greater extent than the outer circumference, simultaneously making the ring of the donut thinner or thicker. (I'd include photos but I actually don't know how.) After 5 hours of tinkering with splines, meshes, etc, I'm still not better off than when I started.

Anyone know how to do this?
