I had just read somewhere that people should check roadkill opossum for live joeys, and unfortunately I saw one on the road today. I keep rubber gloves in my car so I moved it off the road and searched it.
The entire abdomen had been split open and if there was a womb or a scrotum it was not immediately obvious. I saw what looked like it could be a penis, but have not been able to find photographs of opossums genitals to confirm.
This was super unpleasant and if I can ID a male in the future then I know it definitely does not have joeys.
So if anyone familiar with opossum are able to confirm for me if this image is a male or not I would be very grateful. 🙏
Edit: I was using duck duck go to search, switching to Chrome immediately gave me opossum penis pic results
