Hi everyone, I recently got admitted to University of California, Berkeley EECS as a transfer student from community college, and I’m worried about possibly dropping my discrete math class this semester and taking a W.

The thing is:

  • the class does NOT articulate to UCB’s discrete math requirement
  • I would still have to retake discrete math at Berkeley anyway
  • it’s somewhat related to CS, but it technically doesn’t fulfill any Berkeley requirement
  • all my other grades/GPA are still strong

I know dropping major prep classes can be bad, which is why I’m nervous, but since this specific class doesn’t transfer/articulate, I’m not sure how serious it is.

Has anyone been in a similar situation where they dropped a semi-related class after admission that didn’t actually count toward Berkeley requirements? Did Berkeley care or ask questions about it?

I’ll obviously report the schedule change if I do it. I am just trying to understand how concerned I should realistically be about rescission.
