Does it make sense to pay this optional premium on home insurance for water protection coverage?
It's a 1973 built home. I've always had this optional water damage coverage added onto my home insurance to be safe from potential sewage back up damage, but premiums are increasing and considering getting rid of it. The premium is annual $516 for $20,000 coverage with a $1000 deductible. I'm considering cancelling it. Every few years I have to get the City out to drill out tree roots in my sewer line when they cause a small backup, but other than that haven't had any issues with water.
